Reviewer: Anthony Shanks, MD (Indiana University School of Medicine) Description: This is the gold standard on the use of ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology. This edition continues in the excellent tradition of providing comprehensive book, but improves in the areas of readability, images, and online content.Purpose: It is designed as a comprehensive resource for those who use ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology. The online content, specifically the videos, adds value. Audience: It is intended for physicians and sonographers who care for patients that require ultrasound and even MRI. The book has been considered the gold standard for its comprehensive content and ease of use. Features: The book covers the physics associated with ultrasound and then moves into application. Expanded content includes genetics and prenatal testing. A significant improvement with this edition is the use of color on many images. Images, specifically of the fetal heart, are easy to comprehend and the labels are accurate. The text also is easier to read. The authors do an excellent job of incorporating evidence-based medicine. In the chapter on ultrasound and placenta accreta, the authors highlight the recent studies that justify the use of the modality.Assessment: This continues to be the gold standard because of its detailed explanations of images and the rationales for the modality. The online features augment the learning experience. This will remain a core book in our training curriculum.
